Fulham have signed midfielder Andreas Pereira from Manchester United in a £10m transfer deal.
Pereira who was born in Duffel, Belgium, began his career within the youth ranks of PSV Eindhoven before signing for Man Utd in late 2011, where he progressed through their youth ranks and eventually made his senior debut in a 4-0 Second Round defeat at MK Dons in 2014-15 EFL Cup.
The Brazil international however struggled for game time throughout his time at Utd as he scored four goals in 75 appearances, during which he enjoyed productive loan spells at Granada, Valencia, Lazio and Flamengo where he netted 15 goals in 152 appearances across his four loan clubs.
His performances at Flamengo where he produced eight goals in 53 appearances ultimately caught Fulham’s eye and the Cottagers have swooped for the midfielder with an initial £8m transfer fee and £2m in add-ons totalling £10m plus a four-year contract.
Speaking about his decision to move to Craven Cottage, Pereira said: “I’m very happy to be here and I can’t wait to start the season with Fulham.”
As Fulham look to avoid instant relegation for the third time in five seasons, Pereira is eager to help the club stay up as he added: “I want to help Fulham as much as I can to be where they belong. Marco Silva was very important for this. I spoke a lot with him, and he was a key factor in me being here.”
Fulham co-owner, Tony Khan meanwhile described Pereira’s arrival as “a tremendous pleasure” as he hailed the midfielder as “a very talented player,” who he believes will become “a valuable asset” this season in the Premier League.
Utd issued a short statement on Pereira’s departure as they commented: “Everyone at United would like to thank Andreas for his years of service and wish him all the best for the rest of his career.”
