Arsenal continue to sit atop of the Premier League as England’s top-flight breaks up for the first international break of the season.
Headers from William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus plus a 25-yard strike from Fabio Vieira fired Arsenal to a 3-0 away win at London rivals, Brentford, in their first domestic game since losing at Manchester United a fortnight ago.
Arsenal also made Premier League history away at Brentford as Mikel Arteta handed 15-year-old midfielder, Ethan Nwaneri his debut, which meant that Nwaneri became the youngest-ever player to feature in the Premier League.
Kevin de Bruyne provided assists for Jack Grealish and Phil Foden either side of Erling Haaland’s 11th goal in seven appearances, as Manchester City thrashed 10-men Wolves 3-0 away at Molineux with the hosts reduced to ten men after Nathan Collins was red carded for a lunge on Grealish.
Son Heung-Min netted a late second-half hat-trick as a substitute to keep Tottenham in third-place, as he completed their comeback 6-2 home victory over rock-bottom Leicester, as Harry Kane, Eric Dier and Rodrigo Bentacur also scored for the hosts.
Down in the relegation zone, Nottingham Forest remain second-bottom after three quick-fire goals saw Fulham come from behind to win 3-2 at the City Ground, with Tosin Adarabioyo, Joao Palhinha and Harrison Reed netting for the Cottagers in a six-minute second-half spell.
Neal Maupay’s 52nd minute half-volley strike fired Everton to a narrow home win over third-bottom West Ham at Goodison Park.
Elsewhere, Alexander Isak’s 67th minute penalty earned Newcastle United a comeback 1-1 draw against Bournemouth, having fell behind to Philip Billing’s opener for the Cherries just five minutes earlier.
Jacob Ramsey rebound 41st minute winner saw Aston Villa snatch a scrappy win over Southampton at Villa Park.
Two fixtures were postponed due to the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on 19 September as Chelsea and Man Utd’s home clashes against Liverpool and Leeds were respectively called off due to a lack of police resources available.
Brighton’s home clash against Crystal Palace meanwhile was postponed prior to the Queen’s death, due to planned rail strikes impacting upon travel resources of both clubs, although those rail strikes were later called off and will now take place on 1 and 5 October instead.
Finally, all seven fixtures which went ahead this weekend observed a minute silence prior to kick-off in memory of the Queen.
